In Turkish and Arabic traditions, cats have six lives. This contrasts with seven lives in Italy, Germany, Greece and Brazil. In most other countries the number is nine. There is an old English proverb that states, A cat has nine lives. For three he plays, for three he strays, and for the last three he stays. This echos the fact that cats give their owners the most love when they are old- too old to chase mice!
